Recently, we had the honor of meeting the beautiful, vibrant, and intelligent Bae Koteni, a 60 year old woman who boldly went back to school to pursue her lifelong dream.
Though she hadn’t completed high school in her youth, she never gave up. Over the years, she worked tirelessly supplementing her O-Level subjects one by one until she finally attained five Ordinary Level passes. But that wasn’t the end of her journey. She reached out to Madziwa Teachers’ College, where the principal saw her potential and took her case to the University of Zimbabwe. He fought for her until she was granted an interview and she was accepted!
Bae proudly began studying for a National Diploma in Early Childhood Development (ECD). Her love for her grandchildren and the children in her community fueled her decision to become an ECD teacher. She believed that the best way to show love was to serve, and she did just that.
To support her education, she runs a canteen selling sadza, rice, chicken, beef, and other meals raising tuition fees through hard work and heart.
Speaking with Bae was an absolute honor. Her zeal, her passion for teaching, and her unwavering commitment to lifelong learning were nothing short of inspiring.
Moral of the Story:
Age is not a barrier. Dreams don’t expire. With focus, determination, and passion anything is possible.
