Success Story: Brita Gwezere

Brita Gwezere’s leadership journey began in 2021 when she enrolled for her bachelor’s degree at Bindura University of Science Education. From her early days, her potential was quickly noticed, and she became actively involved in student activism, gender equality, and youth empowerment.

Her passion for advocacy led her to take up leadership roles in different campus clubs and organizations. She served as president of the WET club, joined SAYWHAT as a peer educator, and volunteered with YPN, where she promoted HIV and AIDS awareness. During breaks, she extended her service to the community through food donations and volunteer work. Alongside this, she used her talent in poetry as a tool for creative activism, addressing issues such as child marriage, gender-based violence, and student livelihoods.Brita’s leadership journey grew stronger when she was elected Secretary General for the Mashonaland Province of ZINASU, working with organizations such as FSN, WALPE, Padare, Oxfam, PADA, and EJFW. These opportunities exposed her to capacity-building workshops and sharpened her leadership skills.

Her potential was later recognized by the Students Christian Movement Zimbabwe, which appointed her as Chairperson of the Bindura University chapter. She also volunteered at Child Welfare and Protection Services, empowering vulnerable children and youth.Today, Brita is the elected SRC President of Bindura University only the second female president in the institution’s history. She continues to champion student concerns with dedication and courage.

Brita credits much of her growth and confidence to the Female Student Network Trust (FSN), which has been central to her journey. As a graduate trainee and mentee under FSN’s mentorship program led by Hon. Joane Mamombe, she has received guidance, support, and opportunities that have shaped her into the leader she is today.

Brita’s story stands as a powerful reminder to young women that leadership may not always be easy, but with resilience, courage, and the right support structures like FSN, every destination is within reach.
