FEMPower Project Launch

On 12 March 2026, the Female Students Network (FSN), in partnership with Diakonia and other stakeholders, officially launched the FEMPower Project: Championing Gender Justice in Zimbabwe’s Higher and Tertiary Education for Sustainable Conducive Learning Environments

The launch coincided with International Women’s Day, symbolizing our collective commitment to advancing gender justice in Zimbabwe’s higher and tertiary education sector.

 About the Project

FEMPower is a 39‑month survivor‑centered initiative designed to:

  • Champion female student leadership and increase representation in decision‑making spaces.
  • Prevent and respond to sexual harassment, sextortion, and technology‑facilitated GBV (TFGBV) through awareness, digital safety, and survivor‑centered support.
  • Shift harmful social norms that normalize violence and silence survivors.
  • Establish survivor support hubs and strengthen institutional accountability systems across universities, polytechnics, and teachers’ colleges.

 Launch Highlights

  • Survivor‑Centred Support: Commitment to confidential reporting pathways and peer solidarity.
  • Social Norm Shifting: Dialogue sessions and digital campaigns to challenge harmful attitudes.
  • Transformative Leadership: Training and mentorship for female students to rise into governance roles.

Partners

The project is implemented by FSN with support from Diakonia, and other institutional partners, reinforcing a shared vision of safe, inclusive, and empowering learning environments for all students.
