With generous support from GIZ Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), FSNT and Women’s Action Group (WAG) are implementing the Sexual Harassment Prevention and Mainstreaming Actions for Real Transformations (SMART Harare) project—an urgent intervention addressing sexual harassment of female street vendors in Harare’s CBD.

A key activity under this initiative is the sensitization of 50 Municipality Officers from Harare City Council, held on 12 June 2025 at Cresta Oasis. The workshop aims to foster ethical accountability and institutional culture change by:

  • Raising awareness of the lived realities faced by female vendors.
  • Equipping officers with legal and ethical tools for harassment prevention and response.
  • Establishing trust and dialogue between vendors and municipal authorities.
  • Developing an action plan to guide sustained, rights-based intervention.

Twenty officers will be selected as champions to continue advancing anti-harassment practices within their departments, laying the foundations for long-term cultural transformation.

This project boldly asserts that safe streets are essential to women’s economic freedom—and that change begins with informed, empowered duty-bearers.
